Top 5 Must-Do DIY's for 2011

I'm always so busy DIY'ing for the biz that I run out of time to make anything for myself. Ideally, I would like to make at least one item per month for myself or my home. These are my top 5 DIY projects on deck so far.

1. Yarn Balls

So simple, yet so cute! I'm not a knitter. In fact, I'm sort of just discovering yarn and it's applications in decorating. I like the idea of changing out the yarn balls with different coloured ones every few months to reflect changes in your decor or the changing seasons. I assume that to conserve yarn, you would wrap the yarn around a foam sphere available from any art store and secure it with a dab of hot glue.

2. Zipper Shoe Clips

What a fabulous way to liven up your pumps or ballet flats! I'm not really sure how to do this yet, but I figure, I'll just head on down the fabric store, pick up some zippers and see what unfolds.

3. Unconventional House Numbers

This photo was my inspiration, but I'm thinking of doing something a little bit different. How cool would this look if it was done on the flat side of a birch log cut down the centre? I would make two (one from each half of the log) and place one half near the end of the driveway and the other half on the front porch.

4. Pom Pom Bib Necklace

I stumbled upon this tutorial from Little Miss Momma and fell in love! I want to make one in every colour! These pom poms would also make super-cute shoe clips! P.S. This site has loads more fun tutorials that you must check out.

5. Typographic Fabric

I found this tutorial while digging through the Poppytalk DIY archive. I'm thinking of doing something similar, but on a larger scale. Check it: Handmade curtain panels stamped with varying sized letters & numbers to hide the unsightly closet in our home office.

Love the house numbers. There must be a way to integrate that somehow into my home...

For sure! I loved the idea from the moment I first saw it too! This DIY has lot's of applications… It could be cool inside your home as wall art. You could choose the numbers based on a significant date, like an anniversary or something.

its so weird I was finding things to change in my house for 2012 and found this page. I like the unconventional house numbers very much.

I have a question though. will they last ?

Vishal - I have to say that I haven't tried it yet, but I would assume that it depends on where you place them. If they're placed somewhere visible, yet still somewhat guarded from the elements, I think they should be fine!
